Blue in Green About Miles Davis

I am often asked by our guests where the name "Blue in Green" comes from. Blue-green exterior of the building in the green of the highland, perhaps? The fact is that it is from the title of a tune that was in the album "Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis. You may have guessed I am a big fan of Miles Davis and I have over 100 of his CDs, including "bootleg", pirated, editions. I expect many of you know that Miles was a great jazz trumpeter and he produced many excellent recordings and performances until his death, on September 28th 1991. I will leave the details about him to his biographies, let me explain how I became crazy about him.
It was summer 1988 when I had just started working, at an open air concert on a river bank in Nagoya, I was knocked out by the powerful performance of Miles'. I was immature and only knew rock music then. I had been to concerts regularly, several times a year, but I clearly remember that I couldn't stand up when this concert was over. I had never experienced his style of music, he was not flattering but challenging the audience, and it was almost as though he just ran non-stop from the beginning to the end. Later, I learnt his musical stance. He is famous that he never looked back over the past. He never repeated the same tempo or arrangement, which explains the "bootleg" recordings of his performances are very popular and sought after. Even if it's only one day later his performances can sound completely different. It must have taken an enormous effort to maintain this position.
However, only once, he did look back over the past. July 1991 in Paris, he gathered his old friends and had a concert to reproduce the splendid performances from the past, which was like a dream. Many musicians, who had played with Miles and had grown to become great players, performed together like the old days. He was aware that this would most likely be his last concert. He passed away two months later on 28th of September. The recording of this concert was never legitimately published. I obtained the bootleg edition of the recording – I am still anxiously waiting for it to be published officially.
